Self-care tips for wellbeing

With shorter days and colder weather setting in, it’s good to practice regular self-care habits.

The Mental Wealth Academy share their top five ways to wellbeing:

Go outdoors

Bundle up and go outdoors, even when it’s colder, to get some exercise and fresh air. Indoor air quality is often poorer than air outdoors, so if you can’t get out, try to open a window from time to time to bring the fresh air in.

Eat healthy

Winter comfort foods are tempting and sometimes necessary! However, it’s good to try and keep your five fruit and vegetables in your daily diet as well, as this will give you more energy.

Stay hydrated

It’s easy to forget to drink water when feeling the chill. Why not try a glass of hot water with a slice of lemon or herbal tea to revive and hydrate? Did you know, we need on average six to eight glasses of water every day, that’s around 1.2 litres.

Make a playlist

Get motivated with music! Listening to music can help you express and process your emotions, so make time for it when you can.

Whether it’s listening to a playlist in the background as you work, going for a run or chilling out in the evenings, enjoying music can be a real emotional release and motivator that’s great for wellbeing.

Try gratitude journaling

Seeing things written down on paper can bring real clarity, and is often different to the way thoughts exist inside your head. Spend a few minutes each day listing down things you feel grateful for.

Benefits include bringing a new perspective, lowering your stress levels and becoming more self-aware. Do it for seven days in a row and see if it works for you.

You can also use journaling as a way of writing down your worries. Identifying them in this way can make you feel more in control and more prepared to face them.

If you’re a young person aged 16-25 experiencing mild-moderate mental health concerns, or a family member who would like to support them, please get in touch with the Mental Wealth Academy and we can arrange for one of our team to call you back.
