Dog Project at The Mill

Dogs go walking at the Carnival

The Dog project launched as part of the Cowley Road Carnival on 10 July 2016. This project is a collaboration between artist Tom Campbell and Oxfordshire Mind’s Wellbeing Centre ‘The Mill’ on Cowley Road.

The Dog Project has created 100 papier mache dogs that were taken ‘on a walk’ through the carnival as a colourful moving street installation. The project came about as artist Tom Campbell found his brother, who has mental health issues, living in Oxford after being missing for ten years. Together they started making the papier mache dogs before the project expanded to include over 70 people in the artistic endeavour.

At a later date the Dogs will be sold with profits going to Oxfordshire Mind. Ten of the dogs have been painted by local artists, with another number of dogs going to the Cornbury Festival where they will be signed by performers. In July the dogs will also be on show at the Riverside Festival.

The project appeared in the Oxford Mail and UK festival guide.
