The Art Group in Abingdon are busy preparing for the Art Weeks exhibition taking place this Saturday (17 May)
The Art Group, who meet every Thursday at Abingdon Wellbeing Centre have been working on their pieces for the past several weeks to get them ready for this annual artistic extravaganza. The theme this year is ‘Identity’ and the group have worked in many different mediums to address this including sculpture, college, painting and drawing. The range of styles, mediums, and finished pieces is a lovely reminder on how individual our identities are.
Here are some of the pieces that will be on display.
A few regular attendees of the art group talked about their love of art and crafts and how the group allows them some time to be creative. One person joined three years ago as she lost her husband and felt increasingly lonely. Another has been coming to Oxfordshire Mind for six years to support her with depression. A volunteer with the art group loves her time volunteering and was doing an outstanding job of helping to arrange the exhibition.
The Art Weeks exhibition will be open on Saturday 14 May (10am to 4pm) and Saturday 21 May (10am to 1pm). Pop along to Abingdon Wellbeing Centre to see what it’s all about. There will be light refreshments and a children’s art area.
