The Mental Wealth Academy is a vital new partnership offering a programme of non-clinical mental health services for 18-25-year-olds across Oxfordshire. Owing to the pressures of the COVID pandemic, it has been extended in the short-term to 16-and-17-year-olds too.
The service offers a 1:1 intervention programme based on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and solution focused therapies, which are delivered by a team of Transitional Wellbeing Practitioners, like Emma.
Emma tells us why she’s excited to be a part of this new project:
I’m Emma, Transitional Wellbeing Practitioner at BHYP (Banbury Young Homelessness Project), one of the six organisations working in partnership to form the Mental Wealth Academy.
I’m very excited to be a part of the Mental Wealth Academy, offering direct 1:1 support to young people through 1:1 support sessions, at a time that suits them and fits around their schedule.
“In particular, I’m passionate about ensuring young people get the support that they need to move forward and achieve their goals by developing coping strategies, improving wellbeing and increasing confidence and self-esteem.“
Emma Phillips
Transitional Wellbeing Practitioner, Mental Wealth AcademyThree fun facts about me:
- I am a true Northerner! I lived in Yorkshire for my entire life – until two years ago when I moved to Oxfordshire.
- I absolutely love ballet!
- One of my favourite things to do is explore cities around the world.
Since achieving my psychology degree, I have worked in a range of different sectors supporting young people with their mental health and wellbeing.
I started off my career within secure forensic settings providing young people with 1:1 interventions. I have also worked as part of a large therapy team delivering a whole timetable of therapeutic activities for young people to engage with, enjoy and support them with improving their wellbeing.
I have also worked as an Assistant Psychologist proving evidence-based therapies in both 1:1 and group settings.
Since moving to Oxfordshire, I joined the charity BYHP. I originally started working here to support young people with overcoming barriers to help them achieve their goals and return to education or employment.
I am still based at BYHP and now also a part of the Mental Wealth Academy!
We are here to provide support to young people and provide them with skills they can continue to use beyond their interventions with us.
“You can expect understanding, empathy and tailored support from all the Transition Wellbeing Practitioners within the Mental Wealth Academy.”
