Making Life Choices

Making important decisions can sometimes feel difficult, especially when we’re faced with lots of choices, or indeed just don’t know where to begin.

You may not want to set a defined path and prefer to explore your options. In fact, some of the most interesting people find themselves doing things they never set out to do!

If you are actively trying to work out what you want from life, there are some steps you can take to help you on your journey.

✍️ Ask yourself, ‘What do I enjoy doing? Could this lead to a career?’. Make a list of your options and share your goals. Discuss what steps you need to take to explore them.

🚶🏿Take small steps forward and seek support. Who might be able to share their advice? Is there someone at college or a mentor you can approach?

💡 Be patient. Think realistically. Success means different things to different people, and rarely happens overnight. Learn from others, don’t pressurise yourself and move forward at your own pace.

🆕 Don’t be afraid to try something new – unless you feel it is really not for you. You may discover something you love or you’ll at least be able to rule it out from future plans!

The Mental Wealth Academy is a vital partnership offering a programme of non-clinical mental health services for 18-25-year-olds across Oxfordshire. In response to the COVID pandemic, at present, this service is being extended to 16-and-17-year-olds too.

If you’re a young person aged 16-25 experiencing mild-moderate mental health needs, or a family member who would like to support them, please get in touch with the Mental Wealth Academy via our referral form and we can arrange for one of our team to call you back.
