Cowley Wellbeing Centre hosted a celebration event on 29th February 5pm-7pm for many of the 28 Eritrean young men from Refugee Resource who had participated in the Football Fitness and Wellbeing course last autumn.
The young men participating in this Comic Relief funded project had been learning about CBT techniques with our Wellbeing Workers and undertaking football and fitness coaching with an Oxford United coach over a 10 week course programme.
The celebration event was held to give each of the young people who had completed the course a certificate to recognise their achievement as well as an opportunity to play pool and table tennis and share an Eritrean meal together.
Leon Beachy and Eden Habtemichael both attended from Refugee Resource and applauded Duncan McFarland, Oxfordshire Mind Wellbeing Worker for his support of the young people throughout the course.
The group now hopes to build on the course by developing a group in partnership with Active Body Healthy Mind, an Oxfordshire Mind project in partnership with OXSPA supporting people with lived experience into sporting activities.
