Throughout 2022, Finders Keepers will be raising money for Sobell House Hospice, Dementia Oxfordshire and Oxfordshire Mind. The charities were voted for by the team, and over the coming months they will bake, run, cycle, walk, quiz, kick footballs, host auctions and sing – all to raise money for three fantastic charities.
One of the challenges raising funds for Oxfordshire Mind is a cycle ride from London to Paris (in just four days!) being taken on by Alec, Henry and Ceri. We asked them to share a little bit more about their challenge and why they chose to support Oxfordshire Mind.
Alec, Henry and Ceri’s story:
“Hi There, we are Alec, Henry and Ceri. We were hoping we could let you know a little more about our fundraising challenge for Oxfordshire Mind. We have, rather stupidly, signed up to complete a cycle challenge in September of this year from London to Paris. This is a journey of 270 miles across four days of cycling, with roughly 1 km incline during each day of cycling. Now this is a challenge that would be tough for any seasoned cyclist or ‘fitness guru’ given the distance covered in back to back days of cycling. Well, factor in that Alec hasn’t cycled for a number of years and Ceri doesn’t own a bicycle; now you understand why it might have been a bit of a silly idea!
Despite these minor issues, we are absolutely determined to smash the challenge and in the process, raise as much money for Oxfordshire Mind as we possibly can! We are completing this event as part of Finders Keepers 50th Anniversary charity challenges. The aim of the charity challenges is to raise £50k for local charities with us 3 choosing Oxfordshire Mind as our charity partner. Our personal goal is to raise a minimum of £5100 for Oxfordshire Mind which is just over 10% of Finders Keepers Charity Challenges.
We chose Oxfordshire Mind as it is a charity that we all have a connection too. Either personally or through family members, we have all been affected by mental health struggles in one way or another. The work that Oxfordshire Mind do is nothing short of invaluable. They are a phenomenal tool to the local community and one that we feel deserves as much recognition as we can possibly get them.
Any donations will help not only us in our fundraising efforts, but will help Oxfordshire Mind continue the brilliant work they do on a daily basis.”
