On Friday 28th October, Neil Clayton, Danny Phillips and Danny Hicks organised a charity golf day in memory of Andrew Helby who sadly took his life last year. The event was hosted by The Cotswolds Club in Chipping Norton and funds were raised for Oxfordshire Mind, a charity very close to the hearts of Andrew’s family and friends.
Although late in the year they had a fantastic turn out with 18 teams, some teams had travelled from as far away as Dorset, London and Birmingham. Sixty nine golfers playing for a team trophy and many other prizes that were generously gifted by the Helby family. The weather was smiling on them and after a wet morning they played the golf in warm sunshine.
The winning team is pictured with Eileen Helby, Andrew’s mum who presented the trophy. Following the prize giving an auction and raffle was held, which was very well supported by all present.
The total raised on the day was a fantastic £2,550, an absolutely amazing effort. Along with other monies donated in memory of Andrew, the total raised in his memory is £5,659 – a remarkable achievement, thank you so much! These donations will help raise vital awareness of mental health and mental wellbeing across Oxfordshire and bring our services to more people who are in need of support.
Everyone at Oxfordshire Mind would like to say a huge thank you to Nick, Danny H, Danny P for organising this event and choosing to support Oxfordshire Mind. Special thanks Eileen and the Helby family for choosing Oxfordshire Mind as the charity to support in Andrew’s memory. Thank you also to The Cotswolds Club who hosted the event and were incredibly generous allowing them to have the golf course for the afternoon at a very generous rate which helped them raise more monies for the charity.
The date for next year’s event has been booked in for Friday, 7th July 2023, so watch this space for more information in the new year.
