We are thrilled to announce that Paul James, C.E.O. of the River Learning Trust (R.L.T.) is delivering a keynote speach at Youth in Mind 2023. He will be speaking about schools and their interactions with external services and organisations as we all seek to support the mental health of children and young people. He will also consider what might be achieved over the next few years as we find ways of working together to listen, respond and champion! R.L.T. is a multi-academy trust responsible for 28 Oxfordshire schools, plus The Cherwell OTSA SCITT which offers teacher training.
Paul joins Dr. Sarah Hughes, C.E.O. of Mind and a leader in global health and social justice in addressing this unique conference and we have more inspiring speakers waiting in the wings – watch this space! Against a backdrop of budget constraints and service cuts, it is vital that statutory service, school and voluntary sector staff seize this opportunity for cross-sector creative thinking and problem solving if we are to continue supporting our children and young people. Youth in Mind has an amazing range of workshops lined up for delegates – check out the many learning opportunities on offer on the day here.
Our young people are enduring a mental health emergency. More than one in six 5-to-16-year-olds has a probable mental health disorder and suicide is the main cause of death for the under 35s. Oxfordshire’s children are enduring a post-pandemic, cost-of-living crisis with a quarter of under 18s in Oxford growing up below the poverty line. This is what an emergency looks like and this is the damage it does. We all have a part to play in creating a better tomorrow.
