Benefits for Better Mental Health Volunteer
Want to support people navigating the benefits system in a practical, positive way?
Benefits for Better Mental Health (BBMH) Volunteers carry out basic eligibility checks to help people to understand and access the right benefits for them.
You will be:
- Supporting people to understand their benefit entitlement through carrying out ‘benefit health checks’ by phone
- Signposting people to our benefit advisors or other relevant services for further support
- Recording appointments on our client database
- Making the process of claiming benefits less stressful for our clients.
No prior experience of the benefits system is required, but you will need to be an empathetic, calm and organised
Training required: Oxfordshire Mind Induction Training 1 day course. Ongoing support will be provided during the placement.
Time commitment: One morning or afternoon per week (weekdays) over a minimum of 3 months. Plus, a group supervision every 2 months.
Location: Most Administration volunteers are based at our central office in Oxford, but we have some opportunities across Oxfordshire, West Berkshire and online. Travel expenses reimbursed.
Skills needed: Volunteers need to be organised, computer literate and good communicators.
